Youth hostels provide ways for university and college students to travel cheaply both in the UK and around the world, the accommodation is basic with shared sleeping quarters and other facilities but it allows travelling and seeing the world on the cheap. The most common name used for those who use this type of accommodation is Back Packers because you need to be able to carry clothes and anything else you need on your back using a back pack. It is not only students who use Youth Hostels many older couples or singles on a fixed budget also use this as a way of travelling when they are on a fixed income.
Do not expect fancy accommodation or facilities but often some of the youth hostels are in places where
the views are breathtaking or in city centres where any other accommodation could be up 100 times the cost per night, due to it's popularity it is advisable to book in advance to ensure your bed for the night.
