Types of motorcycle licence
Category A licence Unrestricted Category A2 Restricted 125cc and below Moped Licence A simple explanation of the requirements needed to obtain a licence CBT
Compulsory Basic Training If you are 16 or over, you must do your CBT This is the Compulsory Basic Training that all provisional licence holders have to complete before being allowed to ride a moped or motorcycle on the road. You must hold a provisional license with Category P entitlement. or full car driving licence with Category A entitlement to do your CBT Theory and Hazard Perception test This is a two part test, first a 35 question multiple choice test and the second is a series of videos and you have to click to respond to hazards seen and can be booked online at http://www.dsa.gov.uk/ Driving Standards Agency What can you drive when you have passed your CBT Age 16 Moped under 50cc with L plates and you are not allowed to carry passengers until you have passed your moped test Age 17 and Over 125 cc Motorcycle with L plates and you are not allowed to carry passengers until you have taken and passed your full A1 test When you have passed your test for the smaller bikes above you must take further tests depending on your age to progress to larger CC bikes Age 21 and above You can take D.A.S Direct Access Scheme and ride any CC motorbike you wish Age 17 - 21 Other tests are required for you to move up in size of Motorbike in stages , this has been instituted by the government to save lives of younger drivers Highway Code
